The axle splines/nut are dry or loose probably, making an awful noise, so I drove the 4Runner this morning. I got rear ended, of course, by someone who decided to run. But it didn’t leave a scratch, but because they didn’t stop, I’m definitely pressing charges. I think they were also drunk, because I caught up to them weaving back and forth at 15 under. Got em on camera.

Once again proving that SC drivers are top notch.

Credit to you for not causing a few dents yourself by ramming them off of the road after you caught up to them.

You could have the same issue that I’ve had with my spindle nuts...
Glad that you are ok tho!

Glad it wasn’t any worse!

I hope you’re OK!
Years ago my parked car got hit by a drunk. I managed to chase them down (they lived two blocks away). Hell yeah I pressed charges. Damn lady never apologized or offer to pay, and dragged her feet with insurance.

Glad you’re okay and that it wasn’t any worse.

That you weren’t in the Corvette is a silver lining to an unpleasant experience no matter what. Glad that you are okay.

FWIW, they likely aren't an SC driver, or a US driver at that. The Explorer was owned by one of those guys that mass registers under his name.

I posted a video in the Discord and tagged you, if you don’t mind letting me know if it’s a similar noise, that'd be awesome.

I’ll take a look but mine never made any sounds...

Thanks!

What noise does it make?
Also try: put the car into gear or put on the e brake (cant remember which one to do). Get behind the car and push it to rock it back and forth. Listen to hear if you can detect a click sound from the wheels. If so, it’s probably the axle nut.
Either way, get yourself one of these and torque it down (cant recall ft lbs):

he can test for it too. Just cant recall if you put the car into gear or if you put on the ebrake before rocking the car back and forth and listening for a click at the wheel. Either way, wouldn’t hurt to at least replace the nut and torque it down to spec.

Wow, luck, you have it. Still sucks but maybe good luck.

I would just take the center piece off of the wheels with a pick and put a socket on there to check if its loose...

Agreed. Back when I had one, mine was once so loose that I could turn it by hand.

Oh ya, thats true...mine was also the same I believe

118 lbft for C5, 160lbft for C6
C5 and 6 have the exact same bolted joint specs tho, might as well go 160 I say. But need to get a new bolt for that imo and clean the threads.

You seem to have an eye for the silver lining.
It still stinks though. Glad you're ok.

The 4Runner at first glance literally didn't get a scratch. The Corvette likely would have been totalled, so it's not all bad.

I’ve never understood that reasoning (or lack of) now you both committed a crime and your insurance won’t cover you

There is no reason. Only vengeance.

Revenge isn’t best served cold because it’s unpleasant , it’s best served cold because when revenge is in its finest form, it takes meticulous planning and time. Take the ‘ cask of amontillado ’ for example, or what Dee does in S12E7 of its always sunny in Philadelphia.
I would also accept throwing a handful of change at the offending vehicle. That has always struck me as equally trashy and effective
